Dr. Sean Is Delighted to Provide the Below Chemistry Tutoring Service
For high school students grade 9~11:
AP/honors Chemistry. I recommends text book "Chemistry" by Zumdahl (relevant topics only, irrelevant topics such as phase diagrams and colligative properties will not be included). I also recommend to use past exams released by College Board as practice so that students can quickly grasp the concepts and skills for AP chem exam.
USNCO Chemistry Olympiad Local Level. I recommend text book "Chemistry" by Zumdahl supplemented with "Chemical Principles" by Atkins, "Organic Chemistry as A Second Language" by Klein (relevant topics only, irrelevant topics such as E1/E2 elimination mechanisms and name reactions will not be included). For practice, I recommend 2000~2024 USNCO Local exams released by ACS
USNCO Chemistry Olympiad National Level. Similar to Local level, but a bit more topics from "Organic Chemistry as A Second Language" will be included, such as some simple name reactions. The main difference between Local and National level exam is that Local exam emphasize on understanding of chemical concepts whereas National level emphasize on calculations (calculation may be a bit tedious, but only entry-level math skills are needed). In addition, USNCO National will have a lab session, with 25+ years of working experience in chemistry labs, I can mentor the lab session as well.
Any high school chemistry or chemistry related subjects interesting to high school students
For grade 12 high school students interested in medical or biological sciences as their future careers and get ready for college study:
I would recommend to learn some preliminary organic chemistry concepts prior to the inception of your college study, as organic chemistry 1/2 is a requirement and is the foundation for modern science such as biochemistry and molecular biology. Students without any preliminary organic chemistry concepts may found it challenging when studying organic chem 1/2, biochemistry and biology. I recommend "Organic Chemistry as A Second Language" by Klein
For college students as well as Pre-Medical/Pre-Dental/Pre-Optometry students:
General college chemistry. I recommend "Chemistry" by Zumdahl, or "Chemical Principles" by Atkins or the book of your own choice
Preliminary Organic chemistry. I recommend "Organic Chemistry as A Second Language" by Klein or the book of your own choice
Fundamental Orgo 1/2. I recommend "Organic Chemistry" by Clayden or the book of your own choice
MCAT/DAT/OAT exam chemistry (general chemistry + Organic Chemistry). I recommend Kaplan test prep materials or the book of your own choice
Please note that I am very flexible in my teaching style as I am aware that each student has a different condition and learning pattern. I am open-minded and ready to customize for each student and adjust my teaching style accordingly. The students are always welcome to bring their own chemistry books or any chemistry related topics, assignments or questions for discussion.
