I was born and raised in a small rural town in China
I got my Bachelor of Science degree and Master of Science degree in 2006 in synthetic organic chemistry from Nanjing University
During my master's study, I focused on the synthesis of two categories of complex organic compounds: aza crown ether derivatives and azo containing calix[4]arene derivatives. My M.S. Thesis Title: 1, Synthesis and DNA Cleavage of Aza Crown Ether Derivatives; 2, Synthesis and Optical Properties of Calix[4]arene Derivatives Containing Azo
Starting from Sept. 2006, I joined Professor David Cane's research group (one of the best enzymology/bio-organic chemistry research groups) in Brown University and started my PhD study.
In July 2011 I completed my research projects and received my PhD degree.
During my PhD study I also completed some organic synthesis work, but the main focus was on stereochemical analysis of enzyme-catalyzed organic chemistry reactions that are involved in biosynthesis of complex natural products. My PhD Thesis Title: Mechanistic and Stereochemical Analysis of Nanchangmycin Synthase Module 2 and Its Dehydratase Domain.
In August 2011 I joined Professor Ben Shen's research group at Scripps Research Institute and completed my first Postdoc study in Bio-organic chemistry.
In June 2012 I joined Professor Jason Crawford's research group at Yale University Chemical Biology Institute and completed my second Postdoc study in Bio-organic chemistry
I started my career in Pharmaceutical/Biopharmaceutical industry as an analytical chemist from January 2015. In March 2025, after 10 years of industrial work I was impacted by company structural optimization.
During my M.S. and PhD study, I have accumulated 5+ years of teaching experience as teaching assistant. I taught undergraduate students organic chemistry classes and lab sessions. My unique, logical and step-by-step teaching style is loved by my students. I have also developed a "learn smarter, not harder" strategy to make chemistry sturdy a pleasant and inspiring process. Therefore, I decided to embrace the change in life and start my career as full-time tutor for chemistry and chemistry-related subjects.
